Rotarians Jack Lamb, John Brennan and Clare Heagy at the 1983 'Plate Dinner'. The event, first held in 1967, was a popular fund raising project and was held at the Bessborough every March. The Dinner ran for close to 30 years and featured substantial cash draws for those who had purchased tickets for the evening.

Patrons had their ticket numbers and names posted on a large board; tickets were drawn throughout the evening and taken off the board, eliminating the holders from contention until only the final grand prize winner was left.

Second and third prizes were also awarded for those lucky participants who made it to the last three; in addition every fiftieth name drawn refunded to its owner the cost of their ticket.
