- Happy and Sad Dollars:

Wayne McGillivray declared a happy (or sad) dollar for being appointed by Mark to be the coordinator of the Participants in the Coldest Night walk .

Gary Rusu declared that we had bought $ 23,000.00 of Grocery Cards (last year?) .

Peter Zakreski put in happy dollars for the trip with Dave Sundby to Swift Current to check out the Chase the Ace fundraiser . More on that to come .

Adriana Van Duyvendyk gave happy dollars for her holiday time with her parents in California and that they were able to sell Mum and Dad’s house and car .

THE BALANCE OF THE MEETING WAS GIVEN TO SHORT TALKS by the membership answering the questions how they got into Rotary and what do they get out of Rotary:

Dave Sundby - Dave was encouraged by his employer to join, which he did in 1999 . He decided as time went on to always devote at least a certain amount o time per week to Rotary . He is proud of our many projects, particularly King George and RAP .

Mark Gryba - His partner in his dental practice encouraged him to join Rotary . At first he was reluctant as he was trying to build his practice . It was pointed out, though, that one of the aspects to Rotary was the networking .

Al Morton - Al has been involved in other service clubs, such as the Optimists, where he served between 1964 and 1974 . After some time away Al joined Rotary in 1984, having been invited by Merv Wilson . He was intrigued with the international aspect of Rotary . He also took pride in the completion of the Head Stone .

Claire Heagy - He joined in 1969 . His senior partner wanted to withdraw and asked Claire to take his place . We were the only club in the City at the time and there were about 150 members .Claire appreciates that integrity is exemplified in our club . He also mentioned the RAP program .

Scott Byers - Scott joined in 2007 and mentioned the family history in the club - Jack Byers and Drew Byers . Although he is not able to devote a lot of time right now he is happy to support with funds where needed . He enjoyed his involvement with the RAP committee at
E D Feehan, seeing RAP principles at work .

Peter Whitenect - Peter joined so he would have people to come to his funeral . He has a long association with service clubs, including the Y .and their club Y’s Men . He lived in the Maritimes and joined Rotary when he moved to Saskatoon. He timed his year as President to coincide with the International Conference in Melbourne, Australia . He is excited about the fact that projects we are working on have funding outside of Rotary itself; we have financial partnerships . We also have a good reputation .

Peter Zakreski - He joined initially so he could write tax receipts for people wanting to give to the Malawi Project .

Mike Giesbrecht - He joined in 2010, having been invited by his cousin, Scott Byers . The first meeting he attended was about RAP and he was drawn in by the ‘silver tongued’ Winston Blake . Working with the Foundation has been an eye-opener and gratifying . Mike ended with a startlingly accurate rendition of Jim Weber which brought lots of laughter .

We will continue with more member talks like this when we are able .

- reported by Steve Wilson:

- Avis mentioned that the King George school Christmas event is on December 21st . Donations are needed, in particular gifts suitable for men .

- Dave Sundby explained the volunteering for the Enchanted Forest . Dave and Peter Zakreski are the volunteers from our club . There are also two from the Nutana Club . They are taking payment for entry between November 17th and January 10th . The evening sessions are usually between 5:00 pm and 10:30 pm . The cost per car has gone up from $30.00 to $33.00 . If we would like to help we would not be replacing one of those four but we would be a helper at their ‘elbow’ to keep up on everything so that at the end of the night things could be wrapped up sooner .

- Malawi . Peter Zakreski said that the presentation they made at our club has been made at some schools as well and there are three more to go . There is an invite only brunch event on the 4th at the Sheraton Cavalier . Wayne is singing O’ Canada and there is also a vocalist who will be there . They are preparing a new container . A carpentry class from one of the schools is setting up in such a way that it can be used to supplement an office space after it arrives and is emptied . The Concorde group has been generous with warehouse space . This shipment there will be 30 wedding dresses which will be used to rent out in Malawi and this will be another funds raiser . They have sponsors locally who are assisting: Globe Printers and Action Wear . The plan is to stay in the current area until 2020, by which time every aspect of the plan will have been carried out . After that they would start over in a new area .

- Becas . Jim Weber started by saying the web site is almost ready but not quite . They did not have a Becas dinner this year . There are other fund raising efforts in the works such as live tasting event at a local pub . They will hook up with Kiwanis in September of 2017 to sell apples . The challenges in Puerto Vallarta are that local people have made promises but have not fulfilled them. One good thing, though is that they have started a program where once a student has graduated and working they are invited to pay back their own scholarship . This will, of course, allow the money to be used for a new student.
They still have a used lap top program .

SERGEANT - DAVE SUNDBY

- Happy and Sad Dollars . Bev Dubois gave happy dollars for her election win . She will try to attend meetings as much as she can . Jack gave happy and sad dollars for Atchison’s loss but enjoyed the campaign . Bill Johnson, also for the Mayor’s campaign . Dave spoke of his airline travel and turning around because of fog . Earl was happy to be here and for the program in Uganda . Wayne was happy to be at Mosaic and happy the Chicago Cubs still have a chance . He’s also happy with the scotch whiskey the Jim supplied .

There was a meeting of the 100th Birthday Committee after this meeting .
