ROTATELLER
ROTARY CLUB OF SASKATOON

August 10, 2020

ZOOM MEETING

Gary Rusu, Chair

Wayne McGillivray led ‘O Canada’

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

President Paul Gauthier:

There will be a Zoom board meeting on August 12th at 8:00 a.m.

The President’s Dinner will be on Tuesday, August 25th

At the September 9th meeting, the new club model will be presented to the club.

Mark Gryba:

Mark reminded us that he sent out an e-mail confirming the names still on the
local services committee and asking for ideas for local projects. One of the things we will be
looking at is a new centennial project with a cost of between $35,000 and $50,000.

REAL ESTATE SUMMARY by Gary Emde

The market is up approximately 65 % in sales mainly in the price range between $200,000 and $1,000,000.

The interest rates on mortgages are exceptionally low to attract first time home buyers.

It appears that people may have put some plans on hold when COVID first hit and now they are pushing their plans through all at once, which is why there is a sudden increase. Condos are still low however, and commercial real estate has taken a big hit.

HAPPY AND SAD DOLLARS:

Vic Dubois is happy his Montreal Canadiens have advanced to play against the Pittsburgh
Penguins. He is also happy that Bev is running again for city council.

Mark Gryba spent a nice week at Waskesiu.

Wayne McGillivray has enjoyed golfing with his 10-year-old grandson. He had a reasonable
score at Holiday Park recently.

Gary Rusu used to store his motorhome at Sundown Drive-in but now he had recycled asphalt
put down so he can park it at home. The cost was less than one- year rental in the old location.

Graham Pearson put in $50.00 because they have had family visit their Wakaw Cabin,
where he is now. He gave us a brief tour of work done and work still to do.

PRESIDENT’S PRESENTATION

The theme put out by the new international president, Holger Knapp, is ‘ROTARY OPENS OPPORTUNITIES’

President Paul gave us five goals:

Be self-sufficient within one year.

Reduce Membership dues.

Start an Interact Club.

Increase Accessibility to club meetings and proceedings.

Increase local community visibility.

Changes Required:

Adapt to new realities.

Take a pro-active approach.

Everyone contributes - we emphasize service above social.

All teams must be active and report to the membership.

Increase member participation in decisions.
