ROTATELLER
Rotary Club of Saskatoon Lunch Zoom Meeting Wednesday, September 9, 2020

President Paul played a recording of ‘O Canada’.

Mark Cheriyan gave the blessing and quoted from Peter 4:10

Announcements:

President Paul:

Prem’s latest proposal has been passed on to Dave Sundby.

Rotary has developed a guide for hybrid meetings (in person and zoom). We should use two laptops and have two operators. One would do the video recording and one would handle the zoom component.

Polio Plus: there have been some setback in two countries; Afghanistan and Pakistan, so our donations are still encouraged.

There is a Rotary Zoom board meeting on September 16th at 8 am.

Happy and Sad Dollars:

$ 5.00 Gary Kerr celebrated his 40th anniversary (congratulations, Gary and Shirley).$ 5.00 Drew is happy with the performance of the Toronto Blue Jays and is looking
forward to seeing them in the playoffs.
$ 5.00 Mark Gryba’s son graduated as a Doctor of Chiropody from a college in Portland.
Mark says his son would be willing to speak at one of our meetings on the different methods
of chiropractic treatment.
$ 5.00 Gary Rusu is happy with the President’s Dinner, especially to see people in person.
$ 20.00 Graham Pearson had his kids visiting, following pandemic protocol and is glad to have dodged a major forest fire threat.
$ 5.00 Jim Weber is sad because he is dealing with a painful bout of gout. He should not drink red wine or eat red meat and he thought $ 5.00 could be extracted
for this inconvenience.
$ 5.00 Mark Cheriyan is happy that his daughter is attending high school at Evan Hardy Collegiate and is pleased to report that the shelters still do not have any COVID- 19 cases.

Presentation by President Paul:

We were introduced to ‘A New Model for the New Normal’

Our primary goals are to continue to be Rotarians and be financially self-sufficient. Paul showed how we would have more money to sustain ourselves if we reduced the number of members paying RI dues to 20 (which is the same number required to charter a new club). We would have $ 6,600 to use instead of the $ 4,400 we had previously. That extra $ 2,200 could bring us up to be self-sufficient.

There was some discussion, during which time Paul answered some questions and concerns.

The members who would be linked with RI would include the board, the international chair, the foundation chair, and the executive secretary.

The members at the meeting are mostly in favour, with some concerns expressed:
  1. How will RI react? and 2) What happens if other clubs adopt this model and it greatly reduces RI’s funding? The answer Paul gave was that the existence and financial viability of our club is more important. If we continue to lose members because of high fees that would be worse. If the model is a success we may, in fact, be able to reduce our fees in the future.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is an in – person, discussion meeting at the Saskatoon Club on September 21.
