Guest Speaker

Gary Rusu introduced our guest speaker, David Katzman. David has been a teacher throughout his adult life. For a time he taught in Hafford and he really enjoyed the community. He and his wife have three children, who are now grown and on their own.

David spoke to us about anti-Semitism. Beside World War II, where countless Jews were murdered, there have been other instances of great oppression:

In 1933, five million Ukrainians were forced to starve to death.

Anti-Semitism pre-dated Christianity.

Any type of stereotype inevitably leads to prejudice. You may have noticed that several stores in downtown Saskatoon were Jewish owned. This was because no other stores would hire Jews - they would have to start their own businesses.

Martin Luther spread hatred of Jews in the 1400s and 1500s. They were also attacked in the Crusades.

In modern times there is some sentiment that Israel does not have the right to exist, some blame them for the Twin Towers disaster, and for attacks in Paris and New Zealand.

Jews are not a race because the individuals are not genetically different.

We are just one human race and we should live as a family with that in mind.

Some prominent people who are Jews - Albert Einstein, Scarlett Johansson, Drake,
Ralph Lauren.

David is involved with Voices Into Action, and there is a web site.
