CHRISTMAS PARTY

Held at the Saskatoon Club with a Zoom alternative.

We sang ‘O’ Canada together and Gary Rusu gave the blessing.

Marc Cheriyan was the Chair of our meeting. Donna Gauthier was cashier. Wayne Storozuk was the greeter and Marc and Mark Gryba handled the technical support for Zoom.

Our guest was Ronna Miller from Bethany Home. She received a cheque for $ 500.00 for the Home from President Mark. She thanked us and answered questions about the home. The most common age for the residents is 13 and their capacity is 16. The most common reason for them coming is they were from an unsafe environment. They are always full, and the girls usually stay between 1 to 3 months but sometimes longer. The goal is to transition them to a safer living arrangement.

HAPPY AND SAD DOLLARS

  • $ 10.00 President Mark is happy to see everyone out.
  • $ 20.00 Joanne Fisher is happy to be here and see everyone.
  • $ 20.00 Paul Gauthier announced a $50,000 donation to RAP from a North Club member following a Winston Blake presentation to their club.
  • $ 200.00 Graham Pearson is happy with the work the Salvation Army does, with family coming for Christmas, and their dog Sunny is proceeding with obedience training, with a small setback of peeing on the instructor’s desk (the dog that is)
  • $ 20.00 Jim Weber is happy to be home for Christmas and announced virtual tours through an association called International Travel and Hosting. See jimweber@shaw.ca for more information.
  • $ 20.00 Gary Kerr at the passing of Bert Ayers.
  • $ 10.00 Will Arscott also for Bert.
  • $ 10.00 Steve Wilson for two overnights with 1 year old grandson.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • President Mark announced January meetings are Jan 10 and 24th
  • The Banbury / Vida 75-day challenge starts in the New Year. They plan to walk the distance which will virtually allow them to visit all the Clubs in the province. The distance is 1500 km, and they need help. We can raise pledges and participate in the walk as well.
  • Paul Gauthier announced the January 31st symposium for students at Bishop Mahoney. The student council and some teachers, totaling 25 in all are also behind it. There will be five topics and the students will rotate through. The topics include leadership and other skills. St. Joe’s has also expressed an interest in such an event. We may need more facilitators. See Paul.

We had an enjoyable time with our gift exchange, presided over by Marc.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
