Announcements

We have passed the threshold amount required to qualify for District Grants. We have $2,120.00 and this has been filed by Vic and Mark with the District. Our goal was to raise $100.00 per member for the year. Now that we have met our requirements for the share fund we can focus on our attention on Polio Plus.

Gary Rusu announced that Peter Zakreski has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently in the hospital and he will be meeting with specialists in the Cancer Clinic. A card was circulated among those present which members signed and Gary will deliver when he visits Peter.

Prem said the project in Nepal is going well. In fact, there are going to be visits by an optometrist and a pediatrician so the students can receive medical assistance as needed.

Public Image: Vic showed a bulletin which was sent around by District. It is well done and is parallel to what we are developing locally. Our web site technician, Kaitlin, is at the stage of testing our web site. It is not yet accessible to the public but she is asking us to send in photos and other information. The web site needs to be continually refreshed to be effective. Kaitlin is also able to update our Facebook page.

Vic announced that the Council on Aging, along with the Saskatoon Police Service and Fire, are sponsoring an academy for seniors covering safety and security issues, including, among other issues, fraud prevention, internet safety, and elder abuse. These sessions run every Wednesday 9:30 to noon February 12 to April 15. If you are interested contact Vic for more information.

AGM (Annual General Meeting)

Heather Clydesdale, as secretary, was taking notes during this portion of the meeting but I will add my own notes:

Wayne Palmer circulated the financial report, which was accepted without the need for an auditor and ratified by those present.

Mark Gryba reported on the centennial project, the gazebo which was to have been built in Rotary Park. After some years of dealing with the City and contractors with quotes beyond our reach, there is a new contractor Mark is talking with who is very anxious to help us find a way to do it at a cost we can afford.

Wayne Storozuk discussed membership. We have new categories of membership which were approved this year, including family membership, and a 30- year of age and under catergory.

Gary Rusu thanked those who were part of our Christmas Dinner; Wayne Storozuk as Santa and Linda Petrow and Wendy Cooper who were the elves who bought the gifts for the children who attended. Gary also circulated the duty roster and expressed that he would like to see it filled to the end of March. We might sign up for a tour of the river on the Prairie Lily. There are six dates in June and up to 64 people can be accommodated to have dinner. The President’s Dinner is on June 22nd and it might be a good event, says Wayne, for an opportunity to invite potential members..

Mark reported on behalf of Dave Sundby and the World International Service Committee that the $15,000.00 budgeted for international projects was divided as follows:

$ 3,500.00 - Hope for Malawi

Further Announcement:

The Bess will be increasing our meal price by 5 % to $ 22.44. There was some discussion about other options, particularly the Saskatoon Club, who has recently told Gary that they would be able to store the material currently stored at the Bess. There are other hotels are also a possibility but there is a preference in keeping our club downtown. This issue will be revisited.
