President Bev brought the meeting to order with Wayne M. performing triple duty as treasurer, visitors and guests introducer and anthem leader.
 
Steve W. delivered a thoughtful grace asking for guidance of the many club projects underway.
 
Our visitors and guests today were Terri Sewell our guest speaker, Ed Peck a regular from the Nutana Club, Earl Newton from the North Club and Judy Carson, guest of Wayne S. and a prospective member.
 
Announcements today included a reminder of the June 27 President's dinner, so there is no lunch that day. (see Jack for tickets)
 
Bev was very pleased with our 30 member turnout for the Lobster Fest last Saturday night and she thanked all for their support.
 
Tuesday, June 14 will be our next Board meeting at the Saskatoon Media Center.
 
President Bev also thanked Mike G. for his generous support in producing our flashy new club banner, making Al M.'s setup tasks much easier.
 
We are reminded that dues are now being billed with the price discounted to $250 if paid by June 15, after which the price goes up to $275. Visa and MC are accepted as well.
 
President Bev shared with us that while at the recent District Conference in Gimli she placed  memorial flowers during a special remembrance service for our current and past members Kevin Wilson and Warren Champ.
 
Incoming president Jack announced that a meeting of his new Board will be held at 4pm Wednesday, June 1st at the Saskatoon Media Group.
 
Peter Z. advised the we volunteer Monday, June 20 at the Friendship Inn so there will be no meeting that day.
 
Maureen is off to Uganda again at the beginning of July in support of Joys Home of Hope. Earl Newton spoke about his experiences with the Uganda school support system, noting that 40 more kids wanted to attend last year than capacity would allow. He stated that a donation of $35 per month will greatly support this program.
 
The inimitable Dave S. once again acted as our Sergeant at Arms, diligently dialing for dollars drawing dutiful donations. Fines and dollars were delivered for:

-Wayne M. for watching the Riders practice, for singing the anthem at the recent police graduation and viewing the new stadium
-Peter Z. for attending the citizenship ceremony where 199 new Canadians were welcomed

-Heather for attending a conference in Memphis with her daughter

-Graham for a 5,000 klic driving trip to his old stomping grounds in San Diego
 

 

 

Bill Johnson introduced our guest speaker Terri Sewell who heads up the Saskatoon Corporate Challenge, a unique corporate team building event and fund raiser. The beneficiary this year will be Rotary's very own RAP program. Terri also has her own successful events organizer company called  "36 Events". Her clients now include the NHL St. Louis Blues!
 
The Corporate Challenge has been running 5 years in Saskatoon, and is slated again this year for September 12 to September 16. Networking is an added side benefit to team building, with the ultimate goal being fundraising for charity. Over $100,000 has been raised to date in Saskatoon, and this year's target is $20,000 for the RAP program. On-line auctions, team fees and other corporate donations generate funds.
 
Every year a new charity is selected and new events are introduced. In the past truck pulls, talent shows and canoe races have been great attractions. Sasktel, Areva, Cameco etc. are examples of past participants , but Stantec Engineering holds the record as winner 4 years running. (It's secret is diligent training ahead of time.)
 
This year may see games like Ultimate Frisbee, Amazing Race, lawn bowling, games night, sports challenge, a home run contest, and carpet curling. Points, spirit and sportsmanship trophies are awarded to contestants at the conclusion of the event.
