MIKE LECLAIRE declared there were no Visitors and Guests . Gary Rusu was the Greeter and
Paul Gauthier was on Cash.
ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM PRESIDENT JACK:
- President’s Council is later today .
- A reminder that we are serving at the Friendship Inn on March 20th so there is no meeting that day .
- The Malawi Raffle - we don’t know the status - could it be sold out ?
- A grant application was cancelled so the money will be returned to us .
- The Badge Star and Shield Dinner will be on April 12th at 5:30 and our Fire Chief will be the guest speaker .
- Wayne McGillivray announced the Coldest Night walk and that Susan Blum and her daughter have signed up . If anyone else want to walk with our team we should contact Wayne .
- Also, Wayne has been working with disabled skiers, both visual physical, and mental, and
they are looking to train instructors .
- Steve Wilson gave a short report about Adventures in Technology . The companies signed up to host are almost all in place . Registrations for the students are coming in and are at about half . We need billets and drivers for the week of April 23 to 28th . We will canvas our and other clubs .
ADRIAN VAN DUYVENDYK acted as Sergeant at Arms .
- Dean Dodge made the paper as the Y won an award .
- Bev Johnson was filed for wearing Bev Dubois’ badge
- Happy and Sad Dollars:
John Davies’ surgery went well but there were some complications after . He praised the information he gets through e-mail and the rotateller which both keep him in touch .
Heather enjoyed watching volleyball recently at campus .
Gary Rusu . was happy to get his cheque for a sale of his pension / group insurance business
JACK’s TALK ABOUT HIS AFRICAN HOLIDAY:
He and his wife, Shirley, stayed for part of the time at a Hotel called the 12 Apostles in Cape Town .
Part of their experience was a three day wine tasting tour . In some of their pictures Jack looked a little out of focus (or was he himself out of focus?) . Apparently South Africa does their own thing as far as wines go and are really not influenced much by foreign wines .
South Africa has a high unemployment, about 25 to 30 % .
They went on some exciting safaris and Jack showed picture of animals and places . There were trips and sightings of the following:
Helicopter ride
Victoria Falls
Travel on a large Houseboat
Cape Buffalo Baboons Goats Crocodile (5 meters) Hippos
Fish Eagle Elephants (a herd of 30!) Impalas (ate one) Wild Dogs Giraffes
Wart Hogs Rhinos Wildebeest Hyena (including very young ones) Leopards
a Chameleon Gorillas (on a special tour) which were quite approachable
