AUGUST 31, 2015 DISTRICT GOVERNOR'S VISIT

We were honored with the attendance of our DG Ken Krebbs and his very supportive spouse Donna at our meeting today. Also in attendance was ADG Colin Taylor. The three attended our Board meeting prior to our regular meeting. President Bev chaired a fully attended Board meeting where our Club's accomplishments and goals were thoroughly discussed.

District Governor's Message

Having logged innumerable klicks on the family sedan in the name of Rotary, Ken and Donna were only too pleased to join us, bringing the Rotary Theme....."be a gift to the world". Rotarians are encouraged to go beyond the "day to day" usual and thus be a gift to the world.

He shared a story from RI president K.R. Ravindran about an Indian folk tale highlighting the story of being a gift to the world. The morale of the story? It is not the material value of the gift, but how much of ourselves do we give?

A polio free world is perhaps one of Rotary's greatest gift. Recent statistics show that for 13 months the poorest areas of Nigeria for example have been polio free! 2018 is the target date for polio free status in the world.

New member attraction and retention is a critical goal for Rotary. In South America, Africa, India and Asia, Rotary growth is robust.

Use the MyRotary function on the RI website, Ken encourages, and it includes donations that can flow from merchandise purchases. Clubs can showcase their accomplishments as well on the RI website.

Ken stressed the Youth focus of Rotary that is helping to develop the leaders of tomorrow.

Ken also honoured our Club by presenting President Bev with the newly branded Rotary lapel pin. Thank you Ken and Donna for your selfless contributions to Rotary.

Graham is looking for continued backup to write the weekly newsletter. A simple Word document highlighting the meeting will work fine for those not wanting to use Club Runner. The task is important and a good way for new members to get their "feet wet" in supporting the club. Lots of help is available and the time commitment is limited. Please let Graham, Gord, Al or Adriana know if you can help.
