Bill Johnson presented his Vocational Talk about his Rotary history and his new career path. He tied his remarks to the key areas of Rotary service being Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service. 
Bill outlined how in 1932, Rotarian Herbert Taylor, a future RI President was turning around the Aluminum Company of America and developed the four way test.

 

Bill almost became a lawyer at the start of his university education but changed course that led to an advertising and public relations career. He spent some time in Ottawa in politics and then ran several ad agencies before going into management consulting. Potash Corp then hired him in public relations where he worked for 10 years. A key highlight was his responsibility for the communications surrounding the public bid by BHP for PCS.

Bill later embarked on a different career path into personal financial planning with CIBC Wood Gundy. It is a highly regulated industry these days, but Bill finds helping young families build a long term portfolio very rewarding.

 

Bill also shared how his two daughters are now in the process of considering university and career choices. Thanks Bill for a very interesting presentation.

There will be no meeting November 16th as this is our Foundation Dinner date. Paul G. who is co-chair announced the Foundation dinner event for November 16 at the Bessborough. He reminded us of the incentive program for contributions as a "two for one deal" and invited us to review our points earned to date. He said on line contributions are an easy solution for contributions.

 

Adriana asked for help with the equipment setup each meeting as hotel no longer is able to do this for us. Volunteers are also needed to take down the equipment at meeting's end.

Jim W. reported on the Laptop project. The email drop off points are the "Wine for You" store on 8th and also the Butler Byers insurance office.  Wayne M. is coordinating drop offs.
