GUEST SPEAKER

BORIS KISCHUK from the North Club

Boris was a Professional Engineer and he has written four books. His fourth book ‘Possessions’ is the subject of his talk.

Why do people kill each other, become angry, become envious, and become jealous is the premise of the book.

Studies have shown that children are more likely to share possessions than adults –
75 % vs. 20 %.

We are proud of our symbols - our house, car, clothes, jewelry etc.

The extremes of possessiveness cause disasters such as Bernie Madoff and Bre-Ex. Wars are another example. In WWII alone there were 24 Million military casualties and 29 Million civilian casualties. Curtis Dagenais killed two RCMP because of family jealousy.

There have been great achievements without possessions - Louis Pasteur, Marie Currie, and Robby Burns are examples.
