ROTARY CLUB OF SASKATOO
May 12, 2025
Meeting at The Saskatoon Club with a Zoom alternative.
Wendy Cooper chaired the meeting.
Members sang O Canada and Steve Wilson recited grace.
Gary Rusu handled technology with some assistance from Paul Gauthier. Cashier was Donna Gauthier. Kent Smith-Windsor was the greeter and introduced our guests.
HAPPY AND SAD DOLLARS
- $10S from Avis Hardy for her fall and $10H for the club’s support for the duty roster.
- $50H from Jim Weber for just being back.
- $100S from Jack Brodsky for the performance of the Canadian hockey teams over the weekend.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
President Jack’s Announcements:
- Student Sponsorship needs volunteers for reviewing applications.
- We need to look to our own possessions to see if we can donate anything for the On-Line garage sale. We also need to have pick-up points.
- Public Image will be more active using social media and help in this area is welcome.
- There will be a clean-up at the Space on H site 9:00 to 2:00 pm on May 31 and we need volunteers.
Betty Ann Arscott from the Nutana Club came to tell us about a fund raiser for their club. There will be a cow plop bingo on June 8th. A section of the Sutherland school yard will be marked of in a grid of 500 squares. You buy a square or squares for $15 per square or four squares for $50. A cow is brought in, and the winner gets $1,500 if their square has the most cow plop on it.

There will be a board meeting on Wednesday, May 21 at the Saskatoon Club.
Gary Rusu needs volunteers for the Friendship Inn 11:30 am
on May 19. He has 6 volunteers and needs two more..
INTRODUCTION OF GUEST SPEAKER BY Don Lepp.
Carol Shepstone was named Director and CEO of the Saskatoon library system in November,2024. She has considerable experience working in administration in various libraries, including UBC, UofS, and in Calgary and Toronto.
In the Saskatoon Public Library system, dating back to 1913, there are currently 9 locations. There are 330 employees. Over half the residents of Saskatoon are library card holders.
There will soon be a Social Impact Survey of the library in Saskatoon. The goals of the library are:
- Fostering Reconciliation
- Accessibility
- Sustainability
- Lifelong Learning
The new library, at a cost of 134 million, is set to be completed in the fall of 2027.
Some of the features are:
- Eight event spaces
- Production Studios
- Gallery Space
- Literacy and Youth Programs
- A Children’s Area
- Study Space
- 10 Meeting Rooms which can be booked for free.
Security will be present at the entrance. Although this is not a perfect system it is the best way to prevent the problems once someone enters.
Carol responded to several questions from members and was thanked by Wendy for her presentation.
