MEETING RECAP - May 13, 2019

Submitted by Steve Wilson

Dave Sundby was our MC. After O Canada was sung, Dave led members in a moment of silence during which we contemplated how grateful we are for the things in our lives.

Visitors and Guests

Rob Jasper from the Meewasin Club was our guest.

Happy and Sad

H       Steve Wilson announced his niece, Olivia, won a gold medal in the 80 meter sprint.

H         Peter Zakreski was happy about our club participation at the Friendship Inn and the           Citizenship Court on the night of May 13th.

H         Avis was prompted by Dave to express her happiness on winning $500.00 from the Masters Golf Pool, not knowing anything about golf. She also had a sad dollar because     she was called back to work after recently retiring. Her replacement quit after two months. Let's hope a new replacement will be soon found.

Announcements

Rob Jasper announced that LobsterFest is on June 1st. Tickets are $ 75.00 with a tax receipt of
$45.00 which is returned to you.

Ludovica had a fund raiser on Saturday and about $ 1,500.00 was raised for ShelterBox.

The President's Dinner will be on June 24th and Paul Harris Fellow awards will also be presented at this time.

PROGRAM - GENERAL MEETING

BUDGET REPORT - Wayne Palmer

Wayne took us through portions of the budget line by line. Comparisons from last year were shown and the cost of meals and annual dues were discussed. Because we have fewer meetings (twice a month rather than weekly) the overall cost for the year is considerably less.
The annual membership fees will be raised to $335.00 or $ 310.00 with the discount. Some RI costs are now higher. This includes the cost of the magazine, which is $26.00. It was queried by Jim Weber whether we could opt out of the magazine and read it on- line instead. Paul will investigate to determine if this is possible and what, if any, is the cost of viewing it on- line.

Paul moved and Mark seconded the motion to accept the budget.

FOUNDATION - Paul Gauthier

President Paul led a discussion regarding the Foundation. He reviewed the Survey he conducted. Recently a large portion of our foundation donations went to Polio Plus and this reduced our chance to meet the $50.00 per member minimum requirement to qualify for District Grants.

We discussed whether foundation donations should be mandatory or voluntary and the large majority of those present believed it should be voluntary. We may be able to raise additional foundation funds through social events.

Paul mentioned that the people who do not attend meetings generally do not contribute financially.

Wayne McGillivray said the fees are at the level now, coupled with the cost to attend meetings, that make him seriously consider whether to continue as a member.

PUBLIC IMAGE - Drew Byers

The committee is meeting with a company who specializes in branding and they have some ideas that are being pursued. John Laross is leading the committee and all local Rotary clubs are on board and will support it, including the hiring of Caitlin as a web expert.
