ROTARY CLUB OF SASKATOON

MEETING AT THE SASKATOON CLUB with a Zoom option.
 
President Wendy chaired the meeting.
 
Members sang ‘O’ Canada. Avis Hardy read a blessing written by Elaine Zakreski who was unable to attend the meeting.
 
Mark Gryba handled technology. Cashier was Wayne Palmer. Hicham Ziani was greeter and introduced our visitor, Joseph Menezes, a guest of Kent Smith-Windsor.
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
 
Donna Gauthier - Grocery Cards are available.
 
The Estevan Club will be celebrating 100 years this year.
 
Our District Conference will be in Moose Jaw on May 10 and 11.
 
There will be a ‘walk through’ this week at the Victoria Park project, which is near full completion.
 
ROTARY MOMENT
 
Hicham Ziani was officially welcomed to our club by President Wendy and those in attendance. The trappings of membership were given to him.
 
A BRIEF REPORT ON FUNDRAISERS:
 
Steve Wilson has been running the Masters Golf Pool. He explained how the golfers on the entry form are picked (by Sask Golf Assoc.). In dealing with Sask Lotteries we need to be approved for a raffle license each year. Once approved Globe Printers will print the form. This all needs to be done by mid-March. The tournament is April 11-14. Steve has collected the e-mails of past entrants so that is his main source of ticket buyers. He also leaves entry forms at the Golf Dome and at golf courses (hopefully the courses will be open at least by the first week of April). The deadline for entries is April 10.
 
Craft Fair - Paul spoke on behalf of Linda Petrow, who has run the craft fair for the last two years. A venue has been chosen for the fair, date November 2, 2024, which is Hall A at Prairieland Park. There is room for up to 75 tables. We have about 113 in our database. There is a suggestion to offer door prizes, which the vendors should support.
 
 
 
 
 
 
HAPPY AND SAD DOLLARS
 
  • $50 for an unfortunate health issue (broken blood vessel in her leg) that Elaine Zakreski is dealing with.   
  • $10 Avis is sad she has gout in her big toe.
  • $10 Prem is happy that new funds were quickly processed in Nepal.
  • $20 from Mark Gryba - just because.
  • $100 from Graham Pearson for a much-needed snowfall, where he is, and accolades for the Victoria Park Project.
  • $100 for Jack - just because.
 
SPEAKER
 
Paul Gauthier gave a talk describing the structure of our club.
 
1.         The Rotary Club of Saskatoon is a chartered club and we are one of about 45,000 in the world .
2.         Rotary Club of Saskatoon Projects Inc. It originated in 2003 / 2004 to run the RAP Program. This corporation continued to be involved with RAP until 2011, when RAP created 
            their own legal entity. This corporation was reactivated when we began to work on our legacy projects, because we need to sign with other entities, such as the City.
3.         The Rotary Club of Saskatoon Charitable Trust Fund Inc. Donations are run through this Fund so that taxable receipts can be given. Currently Joy’s Centre and (formerly) Becas use
            the fund regularly.
           4.         Our members are all part of the Charitable Trust and the Projects Inc. Corporation. Just a note - these organizations are run totally by volunteers.
 
Paul also informed us that an anonymous $200,000 donation was made to the District and anyone who, along with a money donation of their own, wants to take advantage of the Paul Harris Points available form this donation can do so, but this must be done in February.
 
Next Meeting - February 26, 2024. We will have our Club AGM as well as some matters dealing with the Charitable Trust.
